Tea afternoon for mothers!
(February, 4th in Riga shelter)
At the beginning of February church women held a tea afternoon for mothers who currently reside in Riga shelter for families in Maskavas street 208, Riga. The social work of the shelter Inga Eglite was participating in the event. She helped organize it and was a great hostess. The church had prepared different sweets, fruit, and gifts to mothers – pampers for babies, hygiene items for mothers, and food for the whole families.
We had intended this event as fellowship when women would discuss issues that are important to them. Therefore while church women were sharing their life stories in the chapel, kind and attentive babysitters from the Sunday school had not only thought about interesting activities for children but also prepared nice presents and different sweets.
The chapel was quite small which made us sight close by thus creating a pleasant family atmosphere. After some chat while having tea Olita Karasevska shared her life story. She was followed by Evija who told her testimony, and then the rest of women were encouraged to tell about their lives, too.

It was amazing that during their stories women referred to God time and again testifying how they have experienced God’s touch, help, or urge to seek Him for answer. A woman said later: “This evening was a reminder for me that the only right way out of this difficult situation in my life is to come back to God.”
Most of all in this grey winter night we were encouraged to see that these women who currently have nothing but bitter life experience were so determined to do something to change their lives. Their ability to see a bright future for them and their children ensure that they will make it.
For us who have a better life now it is an excellent opportunity to support, encourage, and help these young mothers and their children in whatever ways we can.
Thank you to all who take part in the charity campaign “Help Your Neighbor!”
